Program Description
International Departure City: Boston (15 days/14 nights)
The European program includes London, Paris and Madrid, the capitals of the United Kingdom, France and Spain. These great historical European powers have exerted extraordinary influence on the world and the development of civilization, and have strong historical and current connections to the United States.

Meet your Teacher Counselor and fellow students on arrival in the International Departure City. There is time to explore the local sights, complete your orientation and enjoy dinner together. The next day, you travel together on an overnight flight to London where you will meet your Program Director.
London, United Kingdom
  • Sightseeing tour with a local guide introduces the Houses of Parliament, St Paul’s Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace, Piccadilly Circus, Leicester Square and much more.
  • A Globe Theatre Workshop gives you an insider’s look at how Shakespearean actors performed and an opportunity to try out your acting skills.
  • Using your included “Tube” pass, scour London with your study group to find clues to a “Bio Tapestry” challenge, and create a presentation for the rest of your group on the last night in the city. Leadership of the study group rotates daily.
  • Visit to a university campus.
  • Theatre performance in London’s West End.
  • Meet with a business or community leader or a leader in the arts or sciences for a discussion group.
  • Visit to the British Museum.
  • Walking tours to Covent Garden, the Tower of London and Mayfair.
  • Weather permitting, explore local food stores and markets for a picnic in the park.

Next, it’s off to Paris on the extraordinary Eurostar train. From King’s Cross/St Pancreas Station in London, you’ll set off through the Channel Tunnel beneath the English Channel to the Gare du Nord in Paris. It’s less than a three-hour ride between the two capital cities and an opportunity to see rural Kent and the Pas de Calais in northern France.

Paris, France
  • Sightseeing tour with local guide includes the Arc de Triomphe, the Champs-Élysées, the Place de la Concorde, Madeleine Church, Opéra Garnier, Place Vendome, the Bastille and Notre Dame Cathedral.
  • Walking tours of the Latin Quarter, the student section of Paris where Hemingway and others would meet, the Marais to see the beautiful renaissance Place des Vosges, and Sacré-Coeur on Montmartre, the bohemian artist quarter that overlooks the rest of the city.
  • Using included “Metro” passes, explore Paris with your new study group to observe the French way of life and to find clues that tell the story of the city through its people, art, architecture and museums. On the last night, study groups create an interactive presentation to share their findings and their story in uncovering it. Leadership of the study group rotates daily.
  • Visit to the Louvre Museum to see Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa and other masterpieces, plus a mock auction to see which team can “sell” their favorite work.
A trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower with breathtaking views of the City of Light.
  • An evening cruise on the Seine River.

Bid farewell to Paris after an included lunch and board an overnight train at the Gare d’Austerlitz for the overnight journey to Madrid. Before boarding the train, shop in local stores and outdoor markets for a “pique-nique” dinner to eat on the train. Fall asleep in couchettes and wake up in Madrid.

Madrid, Spain
  • Sightseeing tour with local guide includes the Palacio Real, the Plaza de España, the Puerta del Sol and Retiro Park.
  • Walking tour in the Plaza Mayor.
  • Visit the Prado museum to see the works of Velasquez and Goya.
  • Enjoy a competitive team debate on a subject that reaches across the three countries you have experienced, drawing on what you have learned and sharpening your communication skills.
  • Learn to make tapas and prepare your own dinner with the help of Spanish chefs.
  • A day filled with team-building exercises that will challenge and amuse! These interdisciplinary challenges involve “survival” skills such as how to get water, how to light a fire, trusting team members to steer through a maze, map reading, canoeing and improvised boatbuilding, all built around games.
  • Gala farewell dinner and flamenco show.
Bio Tapestries/Discussions and Debates

Throughout the program, you'll engage in discussions and debates related to what you are seeing and its significance.  You'll work in study groups to create “tapestries” describing your discoveries and experiences infused with contemporary and historical themes.

Board your return flight to the United States. After clearing customs and immigration, you will be checked in to your connector flight (if applicable) to return home.

Note: Your program may differ in some areas due to scheduling conflicts, unforeseen changes and new opportunities. Your program's final schedule will be confirmed closer to departure. The International Departure City is subject to change.
